Work Life: When I’m Traveling.

When in traveling for my job I miss my family like crazy. I enjoy my work and enjoy collaborating with my colleagues around the U.S., yet wish my husband was in my hotel room bed when I’m lying alone at night.

I actually accomplish a ton when I’m away from home because the distractions are not there after dinner. It’s just me and the perfectly made hotel king size bed with perfectly pressed sheets, battling it out…keep working or go to sleep in the perfect bed.

If you travel for your job I urge you to take advantage of that time alone. Do something for yourself while you have some free time. Do something you dream about doing when you are busy at home with family and work. I like to read my kindle books, research new designs and plugins for my blog or research new people to interview in TacomaWorkingMom TV.

Traveling cross-country is bittersweet. Take advantage of it and make it worth your while, professionally and personally. Refresh your mind and heart so that when you return home you will be fully present with your family.

Totally!!! Traveling can be such a mixed bag for me. Right now I am going on the second week of sharing ONE ROOM with both my husband AND my 3 year old daughter ha ha! But thankfully I have been able to steal away time during the day to myself!!!

I love this post though, because it is so true – sometimes we take those alone times for granted and don’t take full advantage of recharging – EVEN IF IT IS JUST A NAP!!!

    Have a great trip!!!

Thanks for your comment Lindsay! This fall I am traveling every month for a few days if not more and it’s important to make the best of it and be productive. XOXO And look at lots of pics & videos of my boys on my phone! 🙂

I travel frequently because I am a Trainer for ProDoula. I LOVE the end of the day hotel room bliss when nobody is around, crawling on me or asking me for things. It’s. So. Nice. Don’t get me wrong, I do miss my family, but I so enjoy the feeling of being able to pick WHATEVER I want to eat for dinner, being able to eat it without rushing through…I find myself watching television, eating skittles and surfing the web. Sometimes I’ll take a bath. Even waking is nice, because I can get ready like I used to when I was single, without kids. I can do my makeup patiently, be intentional about my clothing and sip my coffee in contentment. I travel 1-3 times a month, for a couple of days at a time. I love getting back home, feeling like I didn’t even work. I even love the hours long plane rides, snacking and reading. You know you are busy when you have to go out of state for alone time!
