Savor The Season & Keep It Simple.

Do you like the elf slippers we bought for our boys? They were just $3.99 at IKEA.

A friend of mine asked me the other day, “Is your December busy?” And I thought to myself before I answered. It’s actually not too busy. I have purposely not over scheduled my family this month in order to savor this special time of year, save money and not live out a stressed December.

I had really wanted to host a big open house Christmas party for family and friends because we just bought our farmhouse this past summer. I have decided not to spend the money and take the time to have a big party this year. And I’m actually okay with that now. Instead, our family is going ice skating together this weekend. We won two airline tickets last year so my husband and I are going on a weekend getaway next week, just the two of us! In a couple weeks we will go see Santa and buy Christmas pajamas. It’s the simple things. I want to encourage you and your family to savor the simple things this month. Make cookies together and take treats to your neighbors. Watch family movies. Bundle up and go on a walk to search for pretty lights.

What does your family do at Christmastime to savor the season and keep it simple?

LOVE this Rosie. I am right there with you. I have intentionally scaled back to the things I really want to accomplish with my family being the priority. We used to have the big open house Christmas Eve but are going to spending it at home, tracking Santa on Norad, and watching movies. Christmas day we open gifts and then head to Vermont for a week of skiing…a family tradition for over 30 years.

Tara, We started going to the Oregon Coast for New Years a few years ago and look forward to it every year! Traditions are so wonderful for kids. They create memories that last a lifetime, much like your Vermont trips! Thanks for commenting!
