Do You Take Your Children To See Live Theater? Join Me in December at The Tacoma Musical Playhouse!

As a little girl in Tacoma, I had the privilege of growing up with live theater. My parents and Grandma would take me to the 5th Avenue theater in Seattle every year at Christmas to see a play, my favorite was Beauty and the Beast. Another year, I loved seeing Peter Pan fly across the stage. Fast forward 20 years, my husband and I have four boys of our own. We do our best to impress on our boys an appreciation for live theater and musical performances. As a family, we love watching Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, the Sound of Music, and in December, White Christmas.

A couple years ago my husband surprised me with tickets to see A Christmas Story, The Musical. Who would of thought that classic Christmas movie would become a musical? It’s amazing to see so many theater musicals come across the big screen, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables (Hugh Jackman was amazing). When I found out that the Tacoma Musical Playhouse was taking a Charlie brown classic tv movie and performing A Charlie Brown Christmas, the musical , I got so giddy with excitement! I thought to myself, “We have to take the boys!”

Last month, I was invited to visit the Tacoma Musical Playhouse to a preview of Charlotte’s Web, the theater’s October family performance. I brought my 2 yr. old, Kjell. We toured the playhouse, got to go backstage, see their enormous costume rooms and even watch the cast dance and sing while they practiced for opening night! It made me feel so grateful that we have such a special theater right here in Tacoma. Want to know why live theater for children matters so much? Read this. Linda Hartzell, Artistic Director of the Seattle Children’s Theater agrees. “I taught for 17 years and I’ve seen first hand that theater makes for smarter, braver, human beings. Theater helps connect the head to the heart,” she says.

The Tacoma Musical Playhouse is a fantastic option for family entertainment in the South Sound. These fully produced musicals bring to the stage some of the most beloved stories of classic children’s literature and feature adult and child Mainstage performers! BUY TICKETS HERE.
