I Don’t Usually Get Political, But GMOs Are A Big Deal!

Do you know what a GMO is? Have you heard about Washington Initiative 522? A GMO is a genetically modified organism that has been altered and does not occur naturally. Initiative 522, would require any product sold in Washington stores to say if it contains genetically altered substances. You may not be into organic and non-GMO foods, but it is really important to make sure that foods that are sold commercially are labeled. Don't you want to know what is in your food? When foods are labeled properly, then we can make an educated decision for ourselves and our families and know what we are putting inside our bodies.

One of my blog readers emailed me and told me about a 4th of July parade this week in Steilacoom that will try and raise awareness for WA I-522.

Here is a run-down of the basic information:

When – July 4th from 12:30pm – 2pm

Where – Steilacoom, Washington

Why – to help raise awareness of GMO's, WA Initiative 522 to have GMO's labeled, and how GMO's impact the health of our kids.

Who – moms, dads, kids, and anyone else interested in participating.

Details – meet at Perkins Park (across from the intersection of Union and Rainier) by 12:30pm. The group will participate in the town parade, which begins at 1pm. They will have two banners promoting GMO labeling and I-522, homemade signs, costumes, buttons, and flyers. It is sure to be a lot of fun!
