1) What was the inspiration behind writing this book?
I was inspired to write Super Woman Rx to help all women who aren’t able to come and see me personally. I’m a physician and a woman who has found superior health, happiness, and vitality for myself and for my family, friends, and more than 10,000 patients because I stepped outside of the conventional medical box.

Superwoman Rx began for me in 2001 as a result of a personal health crash. I was 28 years old and working as an emergency room doctor—this was supposed to be my dream career—but instead, I felt stuck in the mud. While I loved treating patients, I was chronically stressed, over- whelmed, and exhausted. I was fighting excess weight that wouldn’t budge despite long, intense, and frequent exercise sessions. My PMS was fierce and my periods were irregular. My face was covered in cystic acne, my joints were always achy, and my once long and thick hair was coming out in clumps. I was miserable. To get through the demands of the day, I gulped down multiple cups of coffee, even though they never seemed to clear up my foggy head.

DR_TAZ_02I first did the conventional route to address my issues—I was trained, and believed, in the medical system after all. So I went to doctor after doctor, and did test after test, tried multiple medications to manage my symptoms—nothing worked! I was fed up and decided to look into alternative options for health and healing. I incorporated nutritional strategies to use food as medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, Ayurveda, yoga, and more. Finally, I saw results. My face cleared up, my energy increased and balanced out, I lost weight—and my hair stopped falling out (and returned to being thick and shiny). I was so inspired by the results of using, not just conventional medicine, but including the wisdom and healing from practices around the world. I became certified as a holistic and integrative medicine doctor, a certified nutritionist, an acupuncturist, a yoga instructor. I decided to start my own practice to share this knowledge with other people.

Today, I’ve been lucky enough to work with more than 10,000 women to improve their health and happiness. My practice is bursting at the seams, and I’m always getting requests to help women who live all over the world. To meet this demand, and to share the powerful information that you are a Super Woman, and there is a way to optimize your health, well-being, and happiness that you won’t find by just going the conventional medical route, I created this book to share my practice in print with all women.

2) What are common causes of weight gain, fatigue, fogginess, etc?
Common causes are unrecognized food intolerances, unhealthy eating habits, vitamin deficiencies, poor sleep habits, lack of exercise, stress, anxiety, depression, and more.

3) Can you discuss the 5 different Power Types you describe in your book?
This is the most fun. Over time, in my practice, I have realized that I meet five types of women again and again. Of course, each woman is unique—even within her Power Type, but there are similarities within each Power Type that can help a woman to understand her chemistry and the types of nutritional, mindful, and physical changes she can make to maximize her superpowers. The types are the artsy and creative Gypsy Girl, the powerful leader Boss Lady, the mix between the creative and the leader is the Savvy Chick, the steady and centered Earth Mama, and caring and nurturing Nightingales.

4) Give an example of how your prescription plan has helped women you see in your practice.
I recently saw a mother of four who came to me because she was feeling tired and out of touch. We got to work, and after identifying her Power Type we made adjustments to her diet and exercise routine and added in some mindfulness exercises that she needs. Within a month I saw an amazing difference in her sleep, mood, and mental clarity. I see it all the time. In fact, my favorite moments in practice are when I get to see the light come back on in a woman’s eyes when her face glows and she transforms from dim and dull to bright and full.
